FFRE Workshop for Turtle Egg Protection
Saturday, July 25, 9:30 AM – 12 PM
@ Short Beach Union Church
Workshop led by Curt Johnson, Clarice Begemann and Isabella Vega to build 8 protective terrapin turtle egg cages. This will keep the eggs safe from raccoons, skunks and dogs! Space limited to 10 participants.
Farm River Kayak Tour
Saturday, August 15, 2 – 4:30 PM
The kayak tour will start at 145 Meadow St and end at Johnson’s Beach on Clark Ave.
While kayaking down the river, Curt Johnson will be talking about the natural history of the Farm River. This is a great way to learn about the river while viewing flora and fauna. Learn more and RSVP.
Yoga for the Farm River

A Yoga for the Farm River, on the Farm River. All levels are invited for a yoga class as peaceful as the river itself. Let’s go with the flow, release resistance, allow yourself to melt into the earth, and reconnect with our true selves. Please meet at 145 Meadow Street, East Haven, CT at 11 AM. RSVP here.
Fall River Cleanup
Saturday, September 13
Our cleanup of the Farm River while the summertime is coming to an end. Another great way to get outside and help pick up trash along the river before the end of the season, making the river in better condition leading into the wintertime.
Sustainable Farm River Agricultural Tour

Will Delacara of Cecarelli Farm has transformed his large farm operation into a no-fertilizer system that depends on clover and other ground cover to hold soil, keep it moist and provide natural fertilizer to his produce. Join us to hear him talk about his methods!

UPDATES ON THE FARM RIVER WATERSHED
Page’s Mill Pond
Thanks to Cody Arsenault from Sterling Aquatics all water chestnut at Page’s Mill Pond has been hand pulled!
Farm River Watershed Survey
A watershed survey of water chestnut was completed in mid June and no new chestnut outbreaks were found! Thank you to our 3 new enthusiastic volunteers for currently helping us remove the already existing water chestnut in the watershed – Carolyn Curry and Glenn and Kerry Alexander. Thank you to long time volunteer Lindsay Suter and Isabella Vega.
Tilcon and Burr’s Brook
Tilcon has contracted with BioHabitats firm who will be designing bioretention basins on Tilcon’s side of Rt 80 to treat excess sediment and phosphorus. Stay tuned to attend a public event where Tilcon shares their plans.
