NOVEMBER 16: Annual Meeting and Presentation

Friends of the Farm River & Estuary invites the public to its Annual Meeting on Monday, November 16 at 6:30 p.m. featuring local archaeologist Ben Kelsey, who will explore more than 12,000 years of Native American life along the Farm River and the changing landscape of Connecticut’s coastline. The event will be held at the Blackstone Memorial Library (758 Main Street, Branford) and is free and open to the public.

Kelsey’s presentation will take attendees back to a time when the coast was a frozen tundra supporting herds of caribou and extended far beyond today’s shoreline into areas of Long Island Sound that are now underwater. Through images and artifacts he has discovered in the local area, Kelsey will share insights into the people who lived along the Farm River and the archaeological evidence that helps tell their stories.

The annual meeting is an opportunity to learn more about the region’s rich cultural and environmental history from Kelsey, a lifelong New England mariner and local expert in anthropology and archaeology.

Friends of the Farm River & Estuary welcomes community members, history enthusiasts, and anyone interested in the cultural and natural heritage of the Farm River and surrounding estuary to attend.

Friends of the Farm River & Estuary is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, established in 2002 to facilitate access to, and environmentally sound use of, the Farm River watershed through collaboration, outreach and education.
