The Great Give 2026

MAY 3
Bird Walk
The Friends of Farm River Estuary invite the New Haven Bird Club to share a walk along the tracks of the Shoreline Trolley Museum in East Haven through several productive habitats. The timing should be good for us to find a mix of resident and migrating salt marsh birds, raptors, and woodland species. A bonus – at the end of the walk a trolley from the museum will give us a ride back to our starting point. See details.
MAY 9
Spring FFRE Dance
Branford Italian American Social Club (more details to come)
JUNE 6
Spring River Cleanup
Join Friends of the Farm River and our friends in cleaning up the Farm River after trash and debris has accumulated during the winter months. We go out on boats and kayaks to pick up as much trash as possible, no matter how big or how small. Help us make the Farm River healthier and cleaner.
JUNE 27
Invasive Water Chestnut Removal
Eurasian water chestnut is an invasive aquatic plant that grows in shallow bodies of freshwater that clogs waterways and prevents native plants from growing. The seeds are viable for multiple years, resulting in the plant being able to grow long after it has been removed from the water. This plant has invaded our Farm River watershed and we are trying to slow the process down as much as possible. By using canoes, we hand pull the plants out of the water of the most infested bodies of water within the watershed. Help us lessen the effect of this invasive plant on our watershed.
