Water Chestnut Volunteer Removal Day

Hello Everyone,

There is a big water chestnut volunteer removal day Saturday July 19, 2025, 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM at the heavily infested Foxon Pond in East Haven. In order to accommodate interested neighbors, we will be holding this event July 19.

Even if you cannot make the event, we recommend reading the summary below of why water chestnut is negatively effecting waterways:

Water chestnut, Trapa natans, is an invasive aquatic plant that grows in shallow areas of freshwater ponds, lakes, rivers and streams. It clogs waterways and prevents native plants from growing. It can become so dense that fish, frogs, turtles, and other wildlife cannot get through. Water chestnut seeds live for many years and can travel downstream to other waterways. These plants can be controlled by pulling the plants out by hand.

On July 19, meet at 18 Thomas Ct, East Haven. Park on the street. Bring your kayak or canoe, make sure to load it the night before. If you don’t have a boat, contact Clarice at 203-988-6484. Bring drinking water, sun protection and rubber boots or waders. Light refreshments provided!

RSVP by email to ivega549@yahoo.com.
